Apparent corrosion due to stone chipping, flash rust deposits and dirt.
Damage due to stone chipping cannot be prevented by regular care of chrome tail pipe finishers, but it is possible to keep corrosion occurring on stone chippings as well as the baking of iron particles (flash rust) within limits so that the tail pipe finishers retain their gloss and fine appearance over the life of the vehicle.
Polish and clean tail pipe finishers regularly
The tail pipe finishers may not be cleaned with aggressive (e.g. wheel cleaners) or alkaline cleaners. The tail pipe finishers, particularly in the winter months, should be rubbed with a chrome polish and thus protected and well maintained. The Mercedes-Benz chrome care agent is approved for this
(A 000 986 43 74).
An appropriate note is included in the operating instructions and can be viewed in the corresponding Online versions.
The replacement of exhaust system components (tail pipes, tail pipe finishers or rear mufflers) is not justified.
