M3 Fuel pump
Location
The fuel pump is built into the fuel feed module in the fuel tank.
Task
The fuel pump supplies fuel to the fuel injection system (fuel distribution rail) in sufficient quantity and at the required pressure.
Design
The fuel pump is a 3-phase 2-stage flow pump.
A fuel strainer (fuel prefilter) is installed under the fuel pump in the feed line.
Function
The fuel pump is actuated and regulated by the fuel pump control unit (N118) with three phase-offset pulse width modulated signal (PWM signals).
The fuel pump draws fuel from the bottom of the fuel feed module and pumps it through the fuel filter to the fuel distribution pipe (single line system).
