Risk of injury caused by performing testing or repair work on airbag or emergency tensioning retractor units.

Store airbag units with deployment side facing up; do not expose to temperatures greater than 100 °C. When working on these units, disconnect the power supply.

Disconnect ground line of battery

Remove front passenger side trim (1)

Disconnect electrical connector (3) at front passenger airbag unit (2)

Remove screws (4) of front passenger airbag unit (2)

 On vehicles as of 31.8.10, a wiring harness is fixed in place at the left bracket of the front passenger airbag unit (2) above the screw (4). It must be released before removing the front passenger airbag unit (2).

Unscrew nuts (5) of front passenger airbag unit (2) and remove front passenger airbag unit (2) downwards


No further threaded connections may be opened.
The front passenger airbag unit (2) must not be disassembled because otherwise it must be replaced.

 Installation: Observe tightening sequence (A to D) of the nuts (5).
If the front passenger airbag unit (2) is replaced, the defective front passenger airbag unit (2) must be disposed of properly and in an environmentally-appropriate way.

Install in the reverse order

Check supplemental restraint system using STAR DIAGNOSIS

When replacing the front passenger airbag unit (2).
