Remove/install

Switch off ignition and remove ignition key

Disconnect battery ground line

Remove radio (1)

4

Remove gearshift lever for floor shift

Remove paneling (9) above floor shift

Remove ashtray (2)

7

Remove screw/bolt from wooden cover (3) for ashtray (2)

Remove wooden cover (3) upwards

Remove screws/bolts (4) from cover (5)

Push cover (5) backwards and remove upwards (arrow)

Release and disconnect electrical connectors at switches

Remove screws/bolts (6, 7) from cover (8)

Remove cover (8) upwards

Release and disconnect electrical connectors at switches

Release and disconnect electrical connectors at airbag control unit (N2/2) or emergency tensioning retractor control unit (N2/1)

Unscrew screws/bolts at airbag control unit (N2/2) or emergency tensioning retractor control unit (N2/1)

 The arrow on the control unit must be pointing in the direction of travel.

Remove airbag control unit (N2/2) or emergency tensioning retractor control unit (N2/1)

Install in the reverse order



Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running.

Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Start the engine, SRS or RS indicator lamp must go out after approx. 4  s

Model 140 as of 7/1/93

If the SRS or RS indicator lamp does not go out after approx. 4  s.



Read out fault memory of airbag control unit (N2/2) or emergency tensioning retractor control unit (N2/1) with HHT diagnostic system and perform airbag (AB) diagnosis.



Read out fault memory of airbag control unit (N2/2) or emergency tensioning retractor control unit (N2/1) with the adapter (075) and pulse counter (013) at data link connector (X11/4) and check emergency tensioning retractor.
