 Warning

Risk of injury caused by performing testing or repair work on airbag or emergency tensioning retractor units.

Store airbag units with deployment side facing up; do not expose to temperatures greater than 100 °C. When working on these units, disconnect the power supply.

Move seat all way forward, set seat backrest to upright position

Disconnect battery ground line

Remove paneling on B-pillar

Disconnect connector coupling from seat belt tensioner squib (R3/R4)

Remove screw (1) from seat belt guide bracket

Remove seat belt with automatic belt retractor and seat belt tensioner


Automatic belt retractor
must not be disassembled.


Noises from the automatic belt reel when rolling up belt are normal.
In the case of problems, unreasonable levels of noise can be eliminated only by replacing the seat belt with seat belt tensioner.

 Installation: Note the different versions (left/right) of seat belt tensioner and ensure correct seating in the catch.

 Dispose of defective airbag and seat belt tensioner units properly and in an environment-friendly manner.
