Danger! | Risk of explosion caused by welding or soldering work on closed air conditioning system. Risk of poisoning caused by inhaling overheated refrigerant vapors. Risk of injury to skin and eyes caused by contact with liquid refrigerant. | Never perform welding work on or near a closed air conditioning system. No smoking or open flames. Wear safety glasses and protective gloves. Work only in well ventilated areas. Carry out repair work on the air conditioning system circuit only after the system has been discharged.
| Procedure for a damaged or leaky air conditioning system | ||
| Protect air conditioning circuit and components from moisture when carrying out repair work | ||
| Notes on handling refrigerant R134a | ||
1 | Drain air conditioning (recycle) | Note quantity of oil that is suctioned out of refrigerant compressor.
Installation: Filling the wrong quantity of oil can damage the refrigerant compressor.
Installation: Evacuate and fill air conditioning system, adding previously noted quantity of oil to refrigerant circuit (new refrigerant compressor oil).
| |||
2 | Remove front bumper | ||
3 | Remove fan unit (1) | ||
4 | Unscrew bolt (4) of power steering oil line (3) from outer reinforcement
5 | Remove right and left air ducting (2)
6 | Remove lower air ducting (5)
7 | Unclip retaining lugs (14) of engine oil cooler (15) at right and left of radiator (13) and remove
8 | Unscrew nut (6) and pull pressure lines (11) out of connection fittings (12) | Installation: Replace O-rings. Moisten threads and O-rings with refrigerant compressor oil.
Seal off openings to prevent foreign bodies from entering.
| |||
9 | Unclip power steering cooler (7) left of radiator (13) and remove with lines connected
10 | Push expansion lugs (8) together and unclip condenser (9) from radiator (13)
11 | Move condenser (9) with desiccant cartridge (10) out of retaining lugs and remove from below | Installation: Ensure that condenser (9) is correctly seated in the retaining lugs.
Installation: The desiccant cartridge (10) must be replaced whenever the refrigerant circuit has been opened:
Remove/install desiccant cartridge
12 | Install in the reverse order
13 | Check air conditioning system for leakage |
