 Warning

Injury hazard from pinching and crushing, in extreme cases extremities can even be cut off when caught in windshield wiper mechanism.

When working on the windshield wiper mechanism, always switch off the ignition and store transmitter key outside of transmission range (at least 2 m).

Remove

Move windshield wiper system to park position.

Switch off ignition and store transmitter key outside of transmitter range (min. 2 m).

Open hood.

Fold up cover (3) of front passenger wiper arm (1) or driver wiper arm (2).

 A new wiper system is delivered with a new driver wiper arm (2).

Unscrew nut (4) of front passenger wiper arm (1) or driver wiper arm (2).

Release and remove front passenger wiper arm (1) or driver wiper arm (2) with puller and thrust piece from windshield wiper system.

Switch on ignition.

Connect diagnostic system.



Set wiper motor to upper position using vehicle diagnosis system.



 The upper position is intended for installation of the driver wiper arm (2) only.

Mount driver wiper arm (2) onto drive spigot and align parallel with specified dimension (X) to the A-pillar.

Tighten nut (4) of driver wiper arm (2).

Move driver wiper arm (2) using vehicle diagnosis system to parked position and move back to upper position.



Raise driver wiper arm (2) and lower it again.


Raise driver wiper arm (2) before measurement and lower it again.
Measurement errors occur otherwise.

Check dimension (X) of driver wiper arm (2) relative to A-pillar.

If the measurement value is outside the tolerance range,



replace driver wiper arm (2) and start again at operation step 10.

Move driver wiper arm (2) using vehicle diagnosis system to parked position.



Installation of front passenger wiper arm (1)

Mount front passenger wiper arm (1) for drive spigot and align after marking on the windshield.

 The front passenger wiper arm (1) can be aligned slightly below or above the marking on the windshield.

Tighten nut (4) of front passenger wiper arm (1).

Lift front passenger wiper arm (1) and lower it again.


Raise front passenger wiper arm (1) before measurement and lower it again.
Measurement errors occur otherwise.

Check dimension (Y) of marking to lower edge of front passenger wiper blade.

 The dimension (Y) can have a positive or negative value.

If the measurement value is outside the tolerance range,



replace front passenger wiper arm (1) and start again with operation step 16.

Final activities

Close cover (3) on front passenger wiper arm (1) or driver wiper arm (2) then clip into place.

21.1

Perform trial run of front passenger wiper arm (1) and driver wiper arm (2) using vehicle diagnosis system.

If both wiper arms (1, 2) or if only the driver wiper arm (2) was removed.



Perform trial run of front passenger wiper arm (1) and driver wiper arm (2) without using vehicle diagnosis system.

If front passenger wiper arm (1) was removed.

Disconnect vehicle diagnosis system from vehicle.

If driver wiper arm (2) was removed.
