Removing

Remove paneling from left and right C-pillar top section (2)

Remove carrier plate for paneling on C-pillar top section (2)

Press striking plate (1) off of C-pillar top section (2) with assembly wedge and remove from inner C-pillar seal (3)



Install

Remove sealant residues from C-pillar top section (2) and clean sealing surfaces

 The sealing surface must be absolutely dry, free of dust and grease to prevent leaks.

 Observe drying time for cleaning agent

Remove sealant residues from inner C-pillar seal (3) and clean sealing surface (arrows A)

 The sealing surface (arrows A) must be absolutely dry, free of dust and grease to prevent leaks.

 Observe drying time for cleaning agent

Clean new striking plate (1)

 The striking plate (1) must be absolutely dry, free of dust and grease to prevent leaks. Do not soil striking plate (1) during further course of repair to prevent leaks.

 Observe flash-off time for cleaning agent
Always replace cover plate (1).

Install butyl tape (4) overlapping on both sides of striking plate (1) as illustrated. Observe reference dimensions (B)

 Do not touch butyl tape (4) with bare fingers to prevent leaks.

 Reference dimension (B), 10 mm.
Length of butyl tape (4), approx. 80 mm.

Sealing strip

Glue on striking plate (1) to C-pillar top section (2) and press on firmly

 Ensure that the position of the butyl tape (4) coincides with the contour (arrows C) on the C-pillar top section (2).

Install butyl tape (5) in center at edge between striking plate (1) and C-pillar top section (2) as illustrated

 Do not touch butyl tape (5) with bare fingers to prevent leaks.

 Bolts (8) are located outside in the center.

 Length of butyl tape (5), approx.

30 mm.

Install butyl tapes (6) on striking plate (1) as shown

Not when installing inner C-pillar seal (3).

 Do not touch butyl tapes (6) with bare fingers and ensure that butyl tapes (6) are connected to present sealant (arrow D). If sealant is interrupted, leaks can occur.

Press inner C-pillar seal (3) onto cover plate (1) with assembly wedge

 The assembly wedges should not have any sharp edges to prevent damaging the inner C-pillar seal (3).
Ensure that connection between inner C-pillar seal (3) and butyl tapes (4, 6) is present to prevent leaks.

 Ensure that pin (7) is seated properly in core hole (arrow E) of inner C-pillar seal (3).



 Replace carrier plate.
