Remove/install

Commission steering column tube module (MRM) control unit (N80) using diagnostic system.

When replacing steering column tube module (9).



Remove steering wheel.

Unclip trim (1) from steering column tube module (9).

 Do not remove cover (1).

Pull steering column tube module (9) backward out of cutouts (3) and remove steering column tube module (9) from steering column tube (2).


The red safety lock (10) on the steering column tube module (MRM) control unit (N80) holds the clock spring contacts in the center position and therefore it may not unlocked when removing and installing the steering column tube module (9).
Otherwise the clock spring contact will be destroyed.

 Installation: When the safety springs (4) are in the correct installation position, the assembly indicator (5) is retracted.

If steering column tube module (9) is replaced.



The transport protection (6) must be broken off after positioning the steering column tube module (9) on the steering column tube (2).

Unclip retaining clip (7) with electrical wiring harness from steering column tube module (9).

Disconnect electrical connector (8) and remove steering column tube module (9).

Install in the reverse order.

Initialize DISTRONIC electric controller unit using diagnostic system.

Model 447, 448
with code ET4 (Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC)
When replacing steering column tube module (9).

Carry out function check of components in steering column tube module (9) and steering column tube module (MRM) control unit (N80).
