Remove/install

Carry out commissioning of steering column tube module control unit (N80).

If steering column tube module control unit (N80) is replaced.



Remove steering wheel.

 Installation: After installation of a new steering column tube module control unit (N80), transport protection must be broken off before installing the steering wheel.

Remove steering column tube module control unit (N80) from steering column tube (4) until cover (3) can be unclipped.

 Installation: When the installation position of the steering column tube module control unit (N80) is correct, the assembly indicator is retracted.

Unclip cover (3) from steering column tube module control unit (N80).

Remove steering column tube module control unit (N80) from steering column tube (4) until the electrical connector (1) and retaining clip (2) are accessible.


Do not crush or kink or subject electric lines to tension.
This will result in damage to the electric lines and can impair their function.


Do not operate red safety catches in steering column tube module control unit (N80).
Clock spring contact will otherwise be destroyed.

 The steering column tube module control unit (N80) contains the clock spring contact, the steering angle sensor and the switch panel. It is one component and can only be removed or replaced complete.

Unclip retaining clip (2).

Remove actuator lock of electrical connector (1).

 Installation: Replace actuator lock of electrical connector (1).

Release electrical connector (1), disconnect, and remove steering column tube module control unit (N80).

Install in the reverse order

Concluding tasks

Carry out initialization of DISTRONIC electric controller unit.
