Risk of suffocation and risk of poisoning caused by inhalation of gaseous and solid components of the exhaust. Risk of poisoning caused by skin contact with solid components of the exhaust.

Wear protective clothing and safety glasses. Use the extraction system. Move people out of the hazard area.

Remove/install

Remove center and rear sections of lower engine compartment lining.

 Installation: Only install center and rear lower rear engine compartment paneling again after leak test.

Remove left and right front underfloor paneling.

 Installation: Install front left and right underfloor paneling only after the leak test.

Remove temperature sensor upstream of the gasoline particulate filter (1.1).

Remove the rear engine support.

Secure rear muffler (2) against falling down.

7.1

Cut off center exhaust system (1) at the separating point (T1), take rear muffler (2) off at the brackets (11), and remove.

If a one-piece exhaust system is installed.

 The separating point (T1) is marked.

 Installation: Install a new clamp.

Remove rear muffler (2).

If a two-piece exhaust system is installed.

Remove V-band clamp (4).

 Installation: Install new V-band clamp (4).

 Clamp to catalytic converter and front exhaust system

Remove bolts (5).

 Bolt, bracket for decoupling element to body/exhaust system at front

Remove union nuts (8, 9) and screw (7) and bind pressure lines to the side.

 Seal openings with suitable stop plug.
Do not bend pressure lines.

 Installation: Coat thread with heat-resistant lubricating paste.
Install pressure lines free of tension.

 Screw, bracket of pressure line to gasoline particulate filter

Remove center exhaust system (1) from the bracket (10).

 Wet elastomer bearing with lubricant.

The gasoline particulate filter (1.1) is a component of the center exhaust system (1).



Check

Check elastomer bearings of the center exhaust system (1) for wear and damage.

If there is a problem,



replace the corresponding elastomer bearing.



Clean

Remove combustion and corrosion residues from the separating point (T1) and from the separating point for the catalytic converter (3).

Install in the reverse order.

Check installation position and unobstructed movement of exhaust system.

If there is a problem,



Re-align the exhaust system.

 Warning

Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running.

Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.
