Always wear protective gloves when working on or near sharp and non-deburred vehicle parts.
Deburr repair panels.

Remove/install

1

Remove center and rear sections of lower engine compartment lining.

 Installation: Only install center and rear lower rear engine compartment paneling again after leak test.

Remove the rear engine support.

Remove NOx sensor downstream of SCR catalytic converter (N37/8b1) from exhaust system (1).

Release and disconnect the electrical connector for the exhaust gas temperature sensor downstream of the SCR catalytic converter (4).

Release and disconnect the electrical connector from the exhaust gas flap controller (M16/57).

Remove clamp (2).

 Installation: Replace clamp (2) and seal.

Unscrew the nut (3).

 Installation: Replace the nut (3) .

 Nut, decoupling element for front exhaust system to body bracket

Remove the bracket for the exhaust system (1) from the transmission.

 Screw, front exhaust system bracket to torque converter housing

Remove exhaust system (1) from elastomer bearings (5).

 Installation: Wet elastomer bearings (5) with lubricant.

Remove exhaust system (1).

 Aid of helper required.

Remove the front brackets fro the exhaust system (1).

When replacing exhaust system (1).

 Clamp/screw, front exhaust system to

Remove the exhaust gas temperature sensor downstream of the SCR catalytic converter (4) from the exhaust system (1).

When replacing exhaust system (1).

Clean

Remove combustion and corrosion residue at connecting points.



Check

Check elastomer bearings (5) and decoupling element (6) for damage and wear and replace if necessary.

Install in the reverse order.

Check installation position and clearance of exhaust system (1) and correct if necessary.

 Warning

Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running.

Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Perform an engine test run and check the exhaust system (1) for leaks.

Install center and rear lower engine compartment lining.
