Remove/install

Switch off ignition.

Release and disconnect electrical connector (5).

Mark installation position of the fuel hoses (1) on the fuel filter (2).

Remove fuel hoses (1) from fuel filter (2) and seal connections with suitable stop plugs.

 Installation: Check clamps for damage and replace if necessary.

Loosen screw (4).

 Loosen screw (4) until the fuel filter (2) is loose.

Pull out securing clamp (6).

Release retaining lugs (arrows) with a suitable tool.

Detach drain pipe (3).

 Installation: Check sealing ring and replace if necessary.

Remove fuel filter (2).

Remove fuel filter heater with condensation sensor (B76).

Then replacing the fuel filter (2).

Install in the reverse order.

Switch on ignition.


Leave the ignition switched on for at least 15 s so that fuel is present at the high-pressure pump when the engine starts.
Damage will occur to the high-pressure pump otherwise.



Check

 Warning

Risk of burn injuries, suffocation and poisoning when working on the exhaust system and the components connected to it. Risk of suffocation and risk of poisoning caused by inhalation of gaseous and solid components of the exhaust. Risk of poisoning caused by skin contact with solid components of the exhaust.

Wear protective clothing and safety glasses. Use the extraction system. Move people out of the hazard area.

Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running.

Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Perform engine test run and check fuel system in the area of the fuel filter (2) for leak tightness.
