Move rack-and-pinion steering (11) to center position and block steering wheel (1) with holding device (2)


If the steering is not in the center position,
the fanfare horns and airbag clock spring contact could be damaged.

Remove underfloor paneling

Unscrew nut (3) on universal joint (5) of rack-and-pinion steering (11), and remove cam bolt (4)


Only the cam bolt (4) and nut (3) approved for model 450 may be used. .
Screws and nuts of other models with the same dimensions have different properties due to other surface coatings and may impair the strength of the bolted connection

 Once the nut (3) has been slackened off, the cam bolt (4) rotates with it for approx. half a revolution. It is not necessary to counterhold the cam bolt (4) here.

Unscrew nut (6) at left and right flange ball joint (8)

Pry off tie rod end (7) at left and right flange ball joint (8)

Remove bolts (9) of front axle carrier (10) from body

 Support front axle using suitable transmission jack.

Disconnect electrical connectors (13, 14) and disconnect ground lines (15, 16)

Remove bolts (12) of rack-and-pinion steering (11) on front axle carrier (10)

Route out rack-and-pinion steering (11) at side to driver's side



Check

Check rubber mount for fastening of rack-and-pinion steering (11) on front axle carrier (10) for damage, and replace, if necessary

Install

Insert rack-and-pinion steering (11) from driver's side and tighten bolts (12)

 Bolt, rack-and-pinion steering to front axle carrier

Position tie rod end (7) at left and right flange ball joint (8) and tighten nuts (6)

 Self-locking nut, tie rod to steering knuckle

Connect electrical connectors (13, 14) and ground lines (15, 16)

 Ensure electrical connectors (13, 14) latch correctly into place.

Tighten bolts (9) of front axle carrier (10) on body

 Move front axle using suitable transmission jack to mounting position.

Move rack-and-pinion steering (11) to center position and mount steering coupling

Replace self-locking nut (3) and cam bolt (4).
