Pressing tapered roller bearing off and on rear axle shaft

Pressing off tapered roller bearing

 Slide assembly plate between bearing cap and rear axle shaft.

Place rear axle shaft with  assembly plate into the press.

Press bearing cap with radial shaft sealing ring and tapered roller bearing off the rear axle shaft.

Mount retainer ring onto rear axle shaft.

 The anti-twist lock for the retaining ring must line up with the chamfer on the axle shaft
Otherwise the axle shaft will be damaged.

 Replace retaining ring, the flat side must point towards the slotted nut. The retaining ring is fitted to ensure that when pressing-on, pressure is only applied through the bearing inner race.

Route rear axle shaft through the bore in the  assembly plate.

Place rear axle shaft together with  assembly plate into the press.

Press tapered roller bearing onto rear axle shaft as far as the stop.

 The bearing outer race must be rotated during the pressing-on procedure.
Otherwise the tapered roller bearing will be damaged.
