Remove
1 Remove the lock-bolt nut on the axle beam fist.
2 Remove the lock-bolt with the help of an appropriate punch.

3 Remove the top and bottom snap ring (1).
4 Remove the covers (2) and the top and bottom sealing rings (3).

5 Remove the kingpin with the device .
6 Remove the steering knuckle with the washers from the axle beam fist.

Installing
7 Install the steering knuckle on the axle beam fist and adjust the clearance through the compensating washers (1).
On VL 1 axles, a set comprised by a steel ring and a bronze bushing (axial ball bearing) is installed as axial support of the steering knuckle, on both sides.
On VL 2, these parts are only installed on the left side, an axial roller bearing is installed on the on the right side.
On right side steering vehicles this situation is reversed.

8 Center the steering knuckle, with the axial support and the selected compensating washer, with the guide drift.

9 Heat up the axle beam fist with a hot air gun.
Optionally the assembly can be carried out cooling the kingpin with liquid nitrogen.
Danger, use gloves or a magnetic support to install the kingpin.

10 Insert the kingpin until its groove aligns with the lock-bolt.
On VL 1 axles, the kingpin is asymmetric, observe making sure the side (A) is installed up.
The kingpin as the axle beam fist and the needle bearings are to be thoroughly clean and dry, free of any oily substance.
11 Install the lock-bolt and tighten the fastening nut .
12 Install the sealing ring and the retaining cover in the top and bottom part.
13 Install the top and bottom snap-rings observing that the fit perfectly in their respective grooves.
Immediately after installing the steering knuckle, lubricate the needle bearings until fresh grease exits between the steering knuckle and the axle beam.
