Remove/install

1

Switch off ignition and store transmitter key outside of transmission range (min. 2  m).

Remove rear bumper.

Extend ball neck.

Remove fuse and relay module from bracket (1) and place to one side with lines connected.

Release and disconnect electrical connectors at trailer recognition control unit.

 It is not necessary to remove the trailer recognition control unit.

Detach socket flap emergency release (2) from retaining plate (1).

Detach nuts (3) and remove bracket (1).

Disconnect vehicle interior/trailer hitch electrical connector (X58/33).

Remove retaining clip (4).

Detach grommet (5) and pass trailer socket wiring harness and swivel electrics (6) outwards through opening.

Remove cover cap (7) from trailer hitch release (A63).

Disconnect electrical connectors from trailer hitch release (A63).

Remove trailer socket (X58).

Expose trailer socket wiring harness and swivel electrics (6) on trailer hitch crossmember and remove.

Install in the reverse order.



Check

16

Carry out function check of electrically unlocked trailer coupling.

Perform function check of light signals at trailer socket (X58).
