Notes on installing a trailer coupling

Remove trunk floor and spare wheel with bracket

Remove trunk side paneling on left and right

Remove rear bumper

Installation: Check seal (15), replace if necessary.

Remove trailer hitch socket (X58) from rear bumper

 Model 201.03 only

Remove rear muffler

Remove shield of rear muffler

Unscrew trailer hitch socket (X58) from bracket at crossmember (3)

 Except for model 201.03.

 2 sheet metal bolts, loosen cable harness from crossmember.

Unscrew micro-encapsulated bolts (4) with washer, 2 bolts on both left and right, from stiffening beams (2, 12) in trunk and remove crossmember (3)

 Support crossmember.

Installation: Use new bolts (4).

 Bolt, crossmember to vehicle

Unscrew micro-encapsulated bolts (8) with washer (7) at left-hand side of vehicle underbody and remove stiffening
bracket (9).

Installation: Use new bolts (8).

 Bolt, stiffening bracket to longitudinal member

Unscrew micro-encapsulated bolts (8) on right-hand side of vehicle underbody and remove plate (14) with seal (13).

Installation: Use new bolts (8).

Installation: fit plate (14) with round side facing direction of motion, check
seal (13) and replace if necessary.

 Bolt, stiffening bracket to longitudinal member

Unscrew self-locking nuts (6) with washers (16), 2 bolts on both left and right, in side compartments

Installation: use new nuts (6).

 Nut to counter tab

Remove right counter tab (5) and remove stiffening beam (2) and stiffening
bracket (1)

Installation: Stiffening beam (2) and stiffening bracket (1) are labeled with "R".

Pull out left counter tab (5) at vehicle underbody

Remove left stiffening beam (12) and stiffening bracket (11)

Installation: Stiffening beam (12) and stiffening bracket (11) are labeled with "L".

15

Install in the reverse order

 Tighten all bolts (4, 8) and nuts (6) finger-tight, align trailer coupling and then tighten with specified torque.
