 	Removing, installing
	Notes on installing a trailer coupling	Models 124, 129, 140, 163, 168, 201, 202, 208, 210, 215, 220	AH31.10-P-1000-02B
1	Remove rear bumper
2.1	Unscrew bolts (13) and remove plate (12) from crossmember (3).	 Trailer coupling with rigid ball neck only. Installation: use new bolts (13).
		 Bolt, attachment of rigid ball neck	*BA31.10-P-1004-01B
3.1	Remove rigid ball neck (15) from crossmember (3)	 Trailer coupling with rigid ball neck only. Unscrew micro-encapsulated bolts (15).
4	Remove paneling on left and right in trunk	 Sedan only: Unscrew micro-encapsulated bolts (15) and remove strut (16). Installation: Use new bolts (15).

5	Remove rear muffler
6	Remove shield above rear muffler
7	Unscrew trailer hitch socket (X58) from crossmember (3)	 3 sheet metal bolts. Allow socket (X58) to hang down at cable harness.
8	Unscrew micro-encapsulated bolts (4,) 2 bolts on both left and right, out of crossmember (3) and remove crossmember (3).	 Support crossmember. Installation: Use new bolts (4).
		 Bolt, crossmember to vehicle	*BA31.10-P-1001-01B
9	Unscrew bolts (8) with washer (7) at left vehicle longitudinal member and remove mounting bracket (9)	 Both bolts can be accessed from the underbody. Installation: Use new bolts (8).
		 Bolt, stiffening bracket to longitudinal member	*BA31.10-P-1003-01B
10	Unscrew micro-encapsulated bolt (8) with washer (7) at right vehicle longitudinal member	 Bolt can be accessed from the underbody. Installation: Use new bolts (8).
		 Bolt, stiffening bracket to longitudinal member	*BA31.10-P-1003-01B
11	Unscrew self-locking nuts (6) 2 nuts on left and right, from stiffening beams (2) in the side compartments	Installation: use new nuts (6).
		 Nuts to counter tab	*BA31.10-P-1002-01B
12	Remove stiffening beams (2, 12) and stiffening brackets (1, 11)	Installation: Stiffening beams and stiffening brackets are labeled with "R" or "L".
13	Install in the reverse order	 Tighten all bolts (4, 8) and nuts (6) finger-tight, align trailer coupling and then tighten with specified torque.
