Remove/install

Operate parking brake.

Shift transmission to neutral position.

Remove shift cables from transmission.

Disconnect electrical connector (3).

Remove bolts (2) .

 Bolt, shift tower to transmission housing

Remove shift tower (1).

 Installation:
Insert shift tower (1) without tilting it.
Malfunction or damage can occur otherwise.

 Installation:
The shift tower (1) must lie flat against the transmission.
Leaks and damage nay occur otherwise.

 Removal: Remove shift tower (1) vertically upward.

 Installation: The shift fingers (4) must line up with each other as shown.

If necessary,



align shift fingers (4).

Remove sealing ring (5).

 Installation: Replace sealing ring (5). Make sure that the sealing ring (5) is seated correctly.



Check

Check breather connection (6) for damage.

If corresponding findings are present,



replace breather connection (6).



Clean

Clean sealing surfaces on shift tower (1).

If shift tower (1) is to be used again.

Clean sealing surfaces on transmission.

Install in the reverse order.

Teach in neutral gear sensor of shift tower (1) using diagnostic device.



Connect/disconnect diagnostic unit

Check

Check that gearshift system is functioning correctly.

If it is functioning incorrectly



Determine and eliminate cause.
