Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform.

Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.

Remove

Detach ground line of on-board electrical system battery.

Raise vehicle.

Remove lower engine compartment paneling

Remove cover from the nut (3).

Remove electric line (2) from starter (1).

 For this purpose, remove nut (3).

Remove electric line (4) from starter (1).

 For this purpose, remove nut (5).

Remove starter (1).

 To do so, remove the screw/bolts (6).



Check

Check starter drive pinion for damage and wear.

Depending on the findings,



Replace starter (1).

Check ring gear at flywheel for damage and wear.

 To do so, rotate engine at crankshaft in direction of engine rotation and check ring gear through starter opening.

Depending on the findings,



Replace flywheel.

Remove/install a flywheel

Install

Install starter (1).

 To do so, screw in screws (6).

 Bolt, starter to transmission housing

Attach electric line (4) to starter (1).

 To do this, attach nut (5).

 Nut, electrical line to starter

Attach electric line (2) to starter (1).

 To do this, attach nut (3).

Install cover on nut (3).

Install lower engine compartment lining.
