Remove/install

Remove oxygen sensor upstream of catalytic converter.

 Do not remove differential pressure sensor from diesel particulate filter (1).

Remove heat shield (15).

 To do so, remove screws/bolts (16).

Remove the heat shield (17).

 To do this, remove screws (18).

Remove clamp (3) on exhaust pipe (12) and the exhaust gas turbocharger.

 Installation: Replace clamp (3).

Unscrew bolt (4).

 Bolt, exhaust pipe bracket to exhaust pipe

Remove front crossmember.

Disconnect electrical connectors (2).

 Installation:
Ensure that the electrical wiring harness for the electrical connectors (2) is routed correctly.
Otherwise, the electrical wiring harness for the electrical connectors (2) may be damaged.

 Position the electrical connectors (2) outside the working area.

Remove nuts (9).

 Nut, diesel particulate filter bracket to crossmember of front axle

Remove the holder (8) from rubber holders.

Remove nuts (13).

 Nut, diesel particulate filter bracket to diesel particulate filter

Remove the holder (14) with rubber holder.

 Installation: Check rubber holder for damage.

If damage is present:



Replace rubber holder.

Remove bolts (5).

Remove diesel particulate filter (1) from exhaust pipe (11).

Remove diesel particulate filter (1).

 To do this, lift the diesel particulate filter (1), push slightly toward the front and remove downward.

 Installation: Replace seals.

Install in the reverse order.



 Warning

Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running.

Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Check exhaust system for leak tightness while engine is running.
