Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.
Do not fill engine oil into beverage containers.

Remove

Remove the camshaft positioner of the intake camshaft.

Remove the chain tensioner.

Remove screw (1).

Remove timing chain (3) from gearwheel (2), detach gearwheel (2) with the bearing journal from the cylinder head, and secure timing chain against falling down.

Remove bearing journal from gearwheel (2).

Check

Inspect the gear (2) and journal for scoring and galling and, if necessary, replace the relevant component.

Install

Wet the inner contact surface of the gear (2) with engine oil.

Install bearing journal in gearwheel (2).

Attach gearwheel (2) with bearing journal to cylinder head and position timing chain (3) on the gearwheel (2).

Tighten the screw (1) slightly by hand.

Tighten screw (1).

Install the chain tensioner.
