Proceed with the attached hold-down device . The oil holes (arrow) in the sleeves of the new timing chain (1) must be visible after assembly (pointing outward).
1 Connect new timing chain (1) and old timing chain (5) with the assembly link (6.1) for the assembly outer
plate (6.2) and the assembly locking element (6.3).
2 Remove rags from chain slot and the cylinder head so that these cannot be drawn into the crankcase when pulling in the new timing chain (1).
Helper required.
P05.10-2325-11
3 Slowly rotate crankshaft in direction of rotation of engine until the ends of the new timing chain (1) can be connected.
Always hold new timing chain (1) and old timing chain (5) in grip with the camshaft sprocket to avoid skipping. As the new timing chain (1) is being drawn in (arrows), pull out the end of the old timing chain (5) evenly as it becomes free.
P05.10-2326-11
4 Cover the chain slot and the cylinder head with a clean rag.
5 Remove assembly locking element (6.3), assembly outer plate (6.2) and assembly link (6.1) from new timing chain (1) and old timing chain (5). Place old timing chain (5) to the side.
It is essential to remove the assembly link. The assembly link is only an aid for assembly and is not suitable for engine operation.
