Case
When carrying out work on the timing case recess, cover it with a clean rags to prevent small items dropping down. Parts that have fallen into the timing case recess must be removed otherwise the chain drive can be damaged.
The holding device (1) must not be removed.
1 | Connect the new timing chain (2) and old timing chain (3) with the assembly link from the case and secure. |
2 | Pull in the new timing chain (2) while slowly turning the crankshaft with the socket in direction of engine rotation until the ends of the new timing chain (2) can be connected. |
Always keep the new timing chain (2) in mesh with the camshaft sprocket (4), as when the timing chain skips, the timing is changed. In order to avoid damage to the engine due to incorrect timing, pull out the free end of the old timing chain (3) in a steady manner in line with the drawing-in of the new timing chain (2). |

3 | Remove assembly link and place old timing chain (3) to the side. |
The assembly link is only suitable for assembly purposes and not for engine running, as damage can occur to the engine by opening the assembly link while the engine is running. |
