Remove

Remove piston (1)

Remove plain compression ring (2 and taper-faced ring (3) from piston (1) using the pliers (5)

Remove three-piece oil ring (4) by hand from piston (1)

Clean piston (1) and check for damage

If there are problems:



Replace piston (1) together with the plain compression ring (2), taper-faced ring (3) and oil scraper ring (4).

Measure side clearance of the plain compression ring (2) and the taper-faced ring (3)

If there are problems:



Replace piston (1) together with the plain compression ring (2), taper-faced ring (3) and oil scraper ring (4).

Measure end gap of the plain compression ring (2) of the taper-faced ring (3) and the upper and lower rings of the oil scraper ring (4)

If there are problems:



Possibly also replace plain compression ring (2), taper-faced ring (3) and oil scraper ring (4).



Install

Attach three-piece oil ring (4) by hand to the piston (1)

Attach taper-faced ring (3) with the pliers (5) to piston (1)

 Observe installation position. The marking (arrow) on the taper-faced ring (3) must point to piston crown.

Attach plain compression ring (2) with the pliers (5) at piston (1)

 Observe installation position. The marking (arrow) on the plain compression ring (2) must point to piston crown.

Turn plain compression ring (2), taper-faced ring (3) and oil scraper ring (4) in its grooves in such a way that the openings are offset respectively at an angle of about 120 degrees together

Install piston (1)
