The figure shows the front cover on engine 111.979 without camshaft adjuster. The location of components is also valid for the engine 111.984 with camshaft adjuster.

Remove/install

Remove cylinder head cover

Remove coolant thermostat housing

Disconnect connector on camshaft adjustment

Remove combination bolts (2 and 3) remove; remove cover on cylinder head (1)

Note sealing ring (5); it can fall into the timing case.
Installation: Note fitted sleeves (4). Replace sealing ring (5), clean sealing surfaces and coat with sealant.
