B48 Camshaft position sensor
Camshaft Hall sensor position
Camshaft Hall sensor task | Transmitting a Hall signal to the engine control module for detecting cylinder 1.
Camshaft Hall sensor design | The Hall sensor (B48) is an electric control switch. It consists of a magnetic barrier and an integrated semiconductor circuit, the Hall IC. It is surrounded by a metallic protective cap (2) in order to protect it from damage and moisture.
Camshaft Hall sensor function | The engine control module detects cylinder 1 on the basis of the Hall sensor signal for the injection sequence based on the firing order, and knock detection at the individual cylinders. This signal is also required during engine start. The engine control module detects cylinder 1 every 720° when the reference mark signal and the Hall signal are received simultaneously. Substitute function in the event of failure: None. Engine control module is not able to distinguish between cylinders 1 and 6 at engine start. Engine start takes place either in cylinder 1 or 6. Vehicle switches into emergency running mode. |
