An audio CD is played on the CD disk drive of the radio and navigation unit (A2/56) or, for vehicles with code (819) 6-disk CD changer, using the CD changer (A2/6). The CD changer (A2/6), with code (819) 6-disk CD changer, contains an automatic retracting tray for 6 audio CDs. The six selection buttons on the CD changer (A2/6), for code (819) 6-disk CD changer, enable each audio CD to be individually loaded and removed. The CD player is operated using the panel of the radio and navigation unit (A2/56).

The control signals are conditioned and amplified by the audio gateway integrated in the radio and navigation unit (A2/56).

The control signals for the buttons on the control panel and the audio data of the CD changer (A2/6), for vehicles with code (819) 6-disk CD changer, are sent via the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST). The CD changer (A2/6), for code (819) 6-disk CD changer, is operated with the aid of the control panel in the Audio-CD menu.

After inserting an audio-CD into the automatic retracting tray of the CD-changer (A2/6), for vehicles with code (819) 6-disk CD changer, the user can then access the following functions:

 Selection of audio CD

 Select track

 "Search forwards" and "Search backwards"

 Current playback time of track or audio CD

 Programming function

The following functions are possible:

 Track skip

The music tracks are played for 8 seconds. Once the last track has been played on the audio-CD, the CD changer (A2/6), with code (819) 6-disk CD changer, automatically changes to the last set mode.

 Random function

All the tracks on an audio CD are played according to the random principle. Once all the tracks have been played once, the next audio CD is automatically loaded and the random function continues. The random function remains active until it is deactivated.

 Repeat function

Alternatively one track or all tracks on the audio CD are repeated. All the tracks on all the audio CDs in the magazine can also be repeated.

Assign CD titles to audio CDs

Each CD contains a permanently stored table of contents (TOC entry). As a result, the operating module clearly recognizes the particular CD, and is able to automatically name it after the user has assigned the title (even if the CD is placed into another insertion slot in the CD magazine).

The table of contents (TOC) also contains information on the number of tracks on a CD and the CD's total playing time.
