CD-player mode, function

The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) is equipped with an integrated digital versatile disk (DVD) drive for playing navigation DVDs as well as audio and video CDs.

CD changer mode

The CD changer (A2/6) is controlled by the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3). The control signals and the audio data from the CD changer (A2/6) are transmitted via the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST).

 The only media that can be used in the CD changer (A2/6) are audio CDs with the corresponding file format.

An amplifier integrated in the audio gateway control unit (N93/1) performs the final amplification of the audio signals. The amplified signals are emitted via the vehicle's speaker system.

The signal transmission between the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) and the audio gateway control unit (N93/1) takes place digitally via the MOST.

The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) offers the following functions in the "CD-Audio" and "CD changer" submenus:

 "Scan" function

All tracks of one CD or the 1st track of each CD in the entire magazine are played for t = 8 s. After this has been run through completely, the scan function is automatically terminated.

 "Random" function

All the titles on a CD or the entire CD magazine are played in accordance with the random principle.

 "Repeat" function

Alternatively a title, a CD or the entire CD magazine is repeated.

 Fast forward or reverse (music search)

The music played is audible during fast forward or reverse. Certain parts of a title can therefore be specifically played or skipped.

 Navigation is not possible during CD video and DVD video mode.

CD title allocation, function

Each CD contains a permanently stored table of contents
(TOC entry). As a result, the operating unit clearly recognizes the particular CD, and is able to automatically name it after the one-time user allocation of the title (even if the CD is subsequently inserted into another slot of the CD magazine).

In addition, the table of contents (TOC entry) contains information on the number of titles on a CD and the total CD playing time.
