CD-player mode, function

The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) is equipped with an integrated digital versatile disk (DVD) ROM drive for loading navigation data and for playing audio CDs.

CD changer mode (with code (819) 6-disk CD changer)

The CD changer (A2/6) is controlled by the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3). The control and audio signals from the CD changer (A2/6) are transmitted via the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST).

 Only 12 cm CDs may be placed in the CD changer (A2/6),

In vehicles with code (810) Sound system, the amplifier for sound system (N40/3) carries out final amplification of the audio signals. The amplified signals are emitted via the vehicle's loudspeaker system.

The signals between the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) and the amplifier for sound system (N40/3) are transmitted digitally via the MOST. The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) provides the following functions in the "CD Audio" and "CD changer" menus:

 "Scan" function

A CD track or the respective 1st track of each CD in the entire magazine are played for t = 8 s. After this has been run through completely, the scan function is automatically terminated.

 "Random" function

All the titles on a CD or the entire CD magazine are played in accordance with the random principle.

 "Repeat" function

Alternatively a title, a CD or the entire CD magazine is repeated.

 Fast forward/rewind (music search)

Music being played is audible during fast forward or reverse. Certain parts of a title can therefore be specifically played or skipped.

 If the vehicle is equipped with the amplifier for sound system (N40/3) (code (810) Sound system), then the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) must be accordingly encoded using STAR DIAGNOSIS. Otherwise, faults occur with the reproduction of audio signals.

 It is possible to load the navigation data first and then play audio CDs in navigation mode.

CD title allocation, function

Each CD contains a permanently stored table of contents (TOC entry). As a result, the operating module clearly recognizes the particular CD, and is able to automatically name it after the user has assigned the title (even if the CD is placed into another insertion slot in the CD magazine).

The table of contents (TOC) also contains information on the number of tracks on a CD and the CD's total playing time.
