Attach coolant thermostat (1) to a wire and hang in a vessel filled with water

Warm up water until bypass valve (1/2) is closed while stirring the water and permanently measure the water temperature

The heating-up rate should be not more than 1°C to 2°C/minute from about
8 °C below the opening temperature of the coolant thermostat (1).

If specified values are not achieved:

Replace coolant thermostat (1).

Continue to warm up water until the main valve (1/1) is fully opened

The main valve (1/1) must be fully opened after 6 to 8 minutes. Check the water temperature for a fully opened main valve (1/1). If the specified value is not reached:

Replace coolant thermostat (1).

Remove coolant thermostat (1) from vessel and measure distance between collar on coolant thermostat (1) and main valve (1/1) plate

Measurement should take place immediately after removing the coolant thermostat (1) from the vessel.

Note the measured value.

Allow coolant thermostat (1) to cool off until main valve (1/1) is closed

Measure distance between collar on coolant thermostat (1) and main valve (1/1) plate

Note the measured value.

Check stroke of the main valve (1/1)

Calculate stroke on the basis of the previously noted measurements. If the specified value is not reached:

Replace coolant thermostat (1).
