Always wear protective gloves when working on or near sharp and non-deburred vehicle parts.
Deburr repair panels.

Remove

Remove the cylinder head cover (1).

Mark bearing caps (2) and camshafts (4).

Clamp cylinder head cover (1) in the vise.

 Use protective jaws.

Remove bearing caps (2).

 To do this, remove screws/bolts (3).

Remove camshafts (4).

Remove cylinder head cover (1) from the vise.

Remove gearwheel from the exhaust camshaft.

When replacing exhaust camshaft.

Clean

Clean contact surfaces on the cylinder head cover (1) and on the bearing caps (2).

 Take into account markings of the bearing cap (2) relative to the camshafts (4).



Install

Attach gearwheel to the exhaust camshaft.

When replacing exhaust camshaft.

Clamp cylinder head cover (1) in the vise.

 Use protective jaws.

Install camshafts (4).



Specified engine oils (service) - Overview

 Note markings. Lubricate camshafts (4) in the area of the bearing.

Install bearing caps (2).


The bearing caps (2) must lie flat on the cylinder head cover (1).
Bearing caps (2) can otherwise tilt.

 Note markings. Replace screw/bolts (3).

Remove cylinder head cover (1) from the vise.

Install cylinder head cover (1).
