1 Select two complete shims (1) of the same thickness and slide between the two outer races (2 and 3).
2 It must be possible to push the shims (1) firmly between the two outer races (2 and 3) but without too high a pressure.
Shims are available in various thicknesses with a graduation of 0.02 mm.

3 Select the next largest shim, break at the parting lines provided (arrows) and thoroughly deburr the broken edges.

4 Oil both tapered roller bearings with transmission oil
5 Insert the divided shim (1) between the two outer races (2 and 3). Spin the bearings by hand.
6 Then check whether the tapered roller bearings can still be spun by hand.
Should the largest shim not be adequate, disassemble the drive pinion and install the next smaller shim.
