Location
The temperature sensor downstream of the SCR catalytic converter is screwed from the outside into the exhaust gas aftertreatment unit (1).

Task
Via the temperature sensor downstream of the SCR catalytic converter, the aftertreatment control module (ACM) (A60) detects the temperature of the exhaust flow in the chamber downstream of the SCR catalytic converter.
Structure
The temperature sensor downstream of the SCR catalytic converter consists of a stainless steel housing. The inside contains a measuring element, a temperature-dependent resistance with a positive temperature coefficient (PTC).
PTC stands for "Positive Temperature Coefficient": The electrical resistance increases as the temperature increases (PTC thermistor).
Function
The exhaust gas flowing by at the temperature sensor downstream of the SCR catalytic converter influences, depending on its temperature, the measuring element on the inside and results in a change in its electrical resistance. Because a constant measuring current flows through the temperature sensor downstream of the SCR catalytic converter, a voltage drop occurs due to the resistance change via which the aftertreatment control module (ACM) can conclude the associated temperature.
