The AdBlue® tank (3) is made either from aluminum or plastic and has an integrated cooling duct (2) as well as the line fittings (4, 5, 6, 7) for the connection of AdBlue® and coolant lines.
The filler neck of the AdBlue® tank (3) has, with 19 mm, a smaller diameter than the filler neck of the fuel tank and also has an integrated magnetic adapter (1).
The AdBlue® fill level sensor/temperature sensor is installed in the AdBlue® tank (3) to monitor the AdBlue® fill level and the AdBlue® temperature.
Function
AdBlue® refueling
The filler neck with its special diameter and integrated magnetic adapter (1) should prevent an incorrect fueling, for example, with diesel fuel.
During filling, the magnetic field of the magnetic adapter (1) actuates a solenoid switch located in the outlet pipe of the nozzle and thus facilitates filling of the tank.
With this system, an incorrect fueling of the fuel tank with AdBlue® is vice versa also prevented, as its filler neck does not have a magnetic adapter (1) and the solenoid switch in the pump nozzle only permits filling if a defined magnetic field is present.
AdBlue® heating
The coolant coming from the engine and/or AdBlue® heater coolant solenoid valve (Y107) flows through line fitting (4) into the cooling duct (2), flows through this and returns in the direction of the engine via line fitting (6).
Due to the heat transfer of the cooling duct (2), any possibly frozen AdBlue® is defrosted and it is prevented that liquid AdBlue® freezes at low temperatures.
