| Check | ||
On vehicles fitted with mechanical shoe adjustment system, a periodic adjustment should be performed.
1 | Raise the vehicle from the rear
Danger | Take due care when raising the vehicle | Risk of serious accidents.
Support the vehicle on stands, arranged safely under both sides of the chassis, so as to allow the dismantling of the wheels and perform the brake services safely.
2 | Fully release the parking brake lever
3 | Remove the plugs from brake anchor plate sight holes | Use a suitable tool to remove them.
4 | Check pads for wear through the sight holes on the brake anchor plate | When the wear reaches the pad side shoulder, its thickness is already at the maximum wear limit, or when indicated by the shoe sensors.
Minimum pad thickness.
Perrot clearance regulator
5 | Loosen the clearance regulator (1) fastening screw on the brake anchor plate | Soften the movement of the clearance regulator on the brake anchor plate by rapidly hitting the hex screw.
6 | Rotate clearance regulator (3) wheels until the shoes seat firmly on the brake drum | On the left wheel brake, move the adjusting wrench from top to bottom, and on the right wheel, from bottom to top.
7 | Tighten the clearance regulator (1) fastening screw
8 | Rotate the wheel on the clearance regulator (3) backwards, so that the wheel turns freely and the clearance between the pads and the brake drum is achieved | The clearance is measured through the hole on the brake anchor plate, by inserting the corresponding gauge blade.

9 | Rotate adjustment wheels (3) until the shoes seat firmly onto the brake drum | Firstly adjust the front brake shoe and, soon after, the rear brake shoe. To that end, insert the adjustment tool through the holes on the brake anchor plate (2) thus achieving the specified clearance. The clearance is measured through the holes on the brake anchor plate, by inserting the corresponding gauge blade between the shoe pad and the drum.
Blade feeler gauge. | |||
Warning: To control the adjustment wheel retention, move it approximately one dent up and down. The adjustment wheel should always be fully fitted.
10 | Close the brake anchor plate holes with the respective plugs
11 | Perform the function check |
