Measuring device
Pinion basic depth check device |
1 | The use of the device aims at determining the basic dimension of the pinion, this way calculations are not necessary. |
The gauge (2) and the pinion simulator (3) are items that integrate the measurement device (1), if you have the measurement device (1) without the pinion simulator (3), acquire it separately. |

2 | Position the differential housing (5), already disassembled with the bearings faced upward. |
3 | Insert in the pinion bearing lodging the pinion simulator (3). |
4 | Install in the measurement device (1) the dial gauge (4), however, do not fasten it. |
5 | Utilize the gauge (2) to adjust the dimension of the measurement device (1). |
6 | Install the measurement device (1) at the differential case bearings (5) in such a manner that its centering tip stays supported on the center hole of the pinion simulator (3) and consequently, the feeler of the dial gauge by means of the tool's lengthener is supported on the flat surface of the pinion simulator (3). |
7 | Check in the dial indicator (4) if the hand is indicating "zero" or if a shim is required. |
Normally, shims will be necessary between the lodging base and the pinion's bearing. The shims are supplied with thickness varying from 0.1 to 0.5 mm. This way, check the quantity of shims necessary to reach the correct dimension, i,e, hand in the "zero" mark. |
