1 Apply light strikes to the countershaft's bearing outside race (with a suitable drift), with the objective of seating it on the bearing.

2 Measure the distance between the thrust surface of the bearing race and the face of the countershaft's cover. Carry out the same measuring in two opposite points and adopt the mean value. This will be the measurement “A”.

3 Measure the distance between the face of the gearbox case and the bearing race, also in two opposite points and adopt the mean value. This will be the measurement “B”. Subtract the measurement B from the measurement A, and add the pre-load value indicated in the table. This will have to be the thickness of the compensating ring to be installed.
A – B + pre-load value = thickness of the compensating ring.
