| Remove/install | ||
Danger | Risk of explosion from pressurized spray cans | Protect cans from direct sunlight and temperatures above 50 °C
1 | Switch off the main switch or disconnect the battery negative cable | Loosen the screw of the negative cable on the stringer, avoid loosening the battery terminals.
2.1 | Tilt the hood and lock it with the safety rod | Truck with cabin 384.0, 386.0, 694.0, 695.0.
. | |||
2.2 | Tilt the cabin | Truck with cabin 682, 693.
Tilt cab to repair position, tilt back.
2.3 | Open the engine access cover | Refer to the body makers instructions.
For buses, the access to carry out maintenance and repair jobs vary according to body type/make.
3 | Drain coolant from the cooling system and disconnect the coolant pipings from the air compressor
| Replace coolant | . | |
Only in the case in which the air compressor is cooled by coolant.
4 | Remove the compressor drive belt (2), loosen the bolts (9), and then turn the nut (10) clockwise until being possible to remove the belt
| Retension V-belt | ||
Stretch out the belt (2) and check the belt tension.
5 | Loosen the pipings (12) from the hydraulic pump (16) | Hydraulic pump coupled to the air compressor.
Installation: Check for leak-tightness.
Attachment for the nipples to the hydraulic pump
6 | Loosen the fixing bolts of the hydraulic pump (16) to the compressor (1) and remove the bolts along with the coupling piece (14) | Hydraulic pump coupled to the air compressor.
Installation: Tighten the fixing bolts of the hydraulic pump to the compressor with the specified tightening torque.
Check the coupling piece (14) and the sealing ring (17) and, if necessary, replace them.
Hydraulic pump attachment in the distribution housing cover and in the compressor
7 | Disconnect the air inlet hose (8), and remove the outlet piping bolt (3) and the bolt for lubrication (5) from the air compressor (1) | Installation: Check the hose (8) and the clamp and, if necessary, replace them.
Replace the sealing rings of the bolt (5).
Loosen the nut (4) and tighten the bolt (3), replace the sealing rings.
Lubrication connection bolt
Bolt of the air discharge connection
8 | Loosen the bolts (6) and remove the air compressor (1) | When installing a new or re-manufactured compressor, check the air piping and if it has obstructions caused by carbonised oil, it should be cleared, or preferably replaced.
Installation: Replace the sealing ring (18), use vaseline to install it.
In case of oil leaks between the supporting plate (7) and the timing case, replace the sealing rings (19).
When installing the air compressor (1), tighten the bolts (6) with the specified tightening torque.
