Warning

Risk of injury from being trapped in the swivel range of steered axles

Ensure that no persons or objects are in the swivel range of all steered axles when turning the steering wheel. Do not stand in the swivel range of the additional steering axle when the engine is running.

Remove

Move steering to center steering position, so that the steering wheel is in the center position and the wheels are in the straight-ahead position

Remove lower steering column trim (1)

Move steering column to foremost position (towards instrument panel)

Turn steering one half steering wheel turn to right

This makes the fit bolt (2) accessible.

Secure steering wheel against turning

To do so, for example, fix the steering wheel in place on the support rod using cable ties.

Remove fit bolt (2) and remove upper steering shaft (3)

Check if the drift (20) can be inserted up to the test groove (arrow) in the clamp of the upper steering shaft (3)

Align cylinder pins (20.1) to assembly slot (5) and insert drift (20) lightly by hand. The front section has a smaller diameter than the center section, immediately in front of the test groove (arrow).

If the drift (20) can be inserted without any great resistance up to the test groove (arrow).

Upper steering shaft (3) not OK (B) - replace upper steering shaft (3).

If the drift (20) can only be inserted in the front section.

Upper steering shaft (3) OK (A) - mount upper steering shaft (3) and install remaining parts.
