When the engine is started up the heater will start-up automatically depending upon the coolant and ambient temperatures.

The heater booster unit will not be started up if:

the coolant or the ambient-air temperature value does not comply with the temperature specification

or

the red indicator lamp in the heater booster unit switch lights up to indicate that the heater booster unit has been permanently switched off.
