(map matching)

Continuous location finding provides for calculation of the current position of the vehicle.
It is active when the ignition is switched on and is performed by the navigation processor which is integrated into the COMAND operating, display and control module COMAND (A40/3). During the switch-on phase (software is loaded), only basic map matching is available. After switching off the ignition, the important location finding parameters remain stored for a delay time (approx. 30 min).

Constant map matching employs three procedures, which mutually supplement one another and thereby guarantee very accurate and reliable map matching:

Basic map matching (composite positioning)

Map-supported map matching

GPS location finding

Manual entry of vehicle location
It is possible to enter the location manually on the operating and display module.
This can be useful in the following cases:

After transport of the vehicle
(e.g. ferry or train) or

when no GPS reception is available when a trip is started.
