Audio CDs can be played using the radio (Sound 20) (A2) or, with vehicles with code (EP5) CD changer, using the CD player with changer (A2/6). The CD player with changer (A2/6), with code (EP5) CD changer, has an automatic insertion slot for 6 audio CDs. The system is operated via the keypad on the radio (Sound 20) (A2).

The control signals of the radio (Sound 20) (A2) and the audio data of the CD player with changer (A2/6), with code (EP5) CD changer, are transmitted via the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) system.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The signals are processed and amplified by the radio (Sound 20) (A2). The CD player with changer (A2/6), with code (EP5) CD changer, is activated in the "Audio/CD" menu of the radio (Sound 20) (A2). Once an audio CD has been inserted in the automatic insertion slot of the CD player with changer (A2/6), with code (EP5) CD changer, several functions are available to the user:

Once an audio CD has been inserted in the automatic insertion slot of the CD drive of the radio (Sound 20) (A2) or the CD player with changer (A2/6), with code (EP5) CD changer, the following functions are available to the user:

Selection of audio CD

Select track

"Search forwards" and "Search backwards"

Current playback time of track or audio CD

The following functions are possible:

Track skip

The music tracks are played for 8 seconds. Once the last track of the audio CD has been played, the CD drive of the radio (Sound 20) (A2) or the CD player with changer (A2/6), with code (EP5) CD changer, automatically reverts to the last mode set:

Random function

All tracks on an audio CD are played according to the random principle. In vehicles with code (EP5) CD changer, when all the tracks have been played once, the next audio CD is loaded automatically and the random function continues. The random function continues until it is deactivated.

Repeat function

Alternatively, one track or all tracks of an audio CD are repeated. In vehicles with code (EP5) CD changer, all tracks of all audio CDs in the magazine can also be repeated.

Playback of an audio CD in MP3 format

The designation "MP3" is an acronym for MPEG 1 Audio Layer 3 and describes an audio compression standard, which permits the compression of digital music signals to approx. 8 % of the original data size. This is done with almost no audible difference to the original signal (audio CD). In addition to conventional audio CDs, audio CDs in MP3 format can also be played in the CD drive of the radio (Sound 50) (A2) or in the CD player with changer (A2/6), with code (EP5) CD changer. While doing so, a conventional audio CD is emulated (simulated). Only 99 MP3 tracks per audio CD are played. Any tracks on the audio CD above and beyond this will be ignored.
