Audio CDs are played using the CD drive of the radio and navigation unit (SOUND 50 APS) (A2/56) or, in vehicles with code (EP5) CD changer, using the CD player with changer (A2/6)The CD player with changer (A2/6), with code (EP5) CD changer, has an automatic insertion slot for 6 audio CDs. The CD player is operated using the panel of the radio and navigation unit (SOUND 50 APS) (A2/56).

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The control signals are processed and amplified by the radio and navigation unit (SOUND 50 APS) (A2/56).

The control signals of the control panel buttons and the audio data of the CD player with changer (A2/6) with code (EP5) CD changer, are transmitted via the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) system. Operation of the CD drive of the radio and navigation unit (SOUND 50 APS) (A2/56) or CD player with changer (A2/6), with code (EP5) CD changer, is initiated by means of the control panel in the Audio CD menu.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Once an audio CD has been inserted in the automatic insertion slot of the CD drive of the radio and navigation unit (SOUND 50 APS) (A2/56) or the CD player with changer (A2/6), with code (EP5) CD changer, the following functions are available to the user:

Selection of audio CD

Select track

"Search forwards" and "Search backwards"

Current playback time of track or audio CD

Programming function

The following functions are possible:

Track skip

The music tracks are played for 8 seconds. Once the last track of the audio CD has been played, the CD drive of the radio and navigation unit (SOUND 50 APS) (A2/56) or the CD player with changer (A2/6), with code (EP5) CD changer, automatically reverts to the last mode set:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Random function

All the tracks of an audio CD are played back according to the random principle. In vehicles with code (EP5) CD changer, when all the tracks have been played once, the next audio CD is loaded automatically and the random function continues. The random function remains active until it is deactivated.

Repeat function

Alternatively, one track or all tracks of an audio CD are repeated. It is also possible to have all the tracks of the audio CDs in the magazine repeated.

Assigning a title to an audio CD

Each audio CD contains a fixed list of contents. This enables the system, once a title has been assigned by the user, to automatically recognize this audio CD track, even if the audio CD is inserted into another magazine.

The table of contents additionally contains information regarding the number of titles on an audio CD and the audio CD's total playing time.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Playback of an audio CD in MP3 format

The designation "MP3" is an acronym for MPEG 1 Audio Layer 3 and describes an audio compression standard, which permits the compression of digital music signals to approx. 8 % of the original data size. This is done with almost no audible difference to the original signal (audio CD). In addition to conventional audio CDs, audio CDs in MP3 format can also be played in the CD drive of the radio and navigation unit (SOUND 50 APS) (A2/56). While doing so, a conventional audio CD is emulated (simulated).
