Block diagram of COMAND with CD changer
The marked components are those significantly involved in the operation of the CD.
CD changer mode
The CD player with changer is controlled by the COMAND operating, display and control module (A40/3). The control signals and audio data from the CD player with changer are transferred via the D2B bus.
Only place 12 cm CDs in theCD player with changer ; it is not permissible to use an 8 cm CD adapter.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
COMAND offers the following functions in combination with the CD player with changer :
Scan function
The titles of a CD, or the first title of each of the CDs within the entire magazine, are played for 8 s. After running through completely, the scan function is terminated automatically.
Random function
All titles on a CD or the entire CD magazine are played according to the random principle.
Repeat function
One title or one CD or the entire CD magazine is repeated as selected.
Fast forward/reverse (music search)
During fast forward/reverse, the music can be heard. Certain parts of a title can therefore be specifically played or skipped.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CD title assignment, function
Each CD contains a permanently stored, so-called Table of Contents (TOC) entry. COMAND recognizes clearly the specific CD on the basis of this entry and can designate it automatically after the title has been assigned once by the user (even when the CD is then inserted in another CD magazine).
The TOC record additionally contains information regarding the number of titles on a CD and the CD's total playing time.
CD operation with the integrated CD drive
The COMAND operating, display and control module (A40/3) has an integrated CD drive which serves for playing audio CDs or alternately loading the navigation data.
During navigation operation, no audio CD's can be played.
