Accelerator pedal sensor

Location

The accelerator pedal sensor (B37) is integrated in the accelerator pedal module.

Task

The accelerator pedal sensor (B37) converts the mechanical actuation of the accelerator pedal into an electrical voltage corresponding to the accelerator pedal position.

Function

The accelerator pedal sensor (B37) consists of a shaft with ring magnet. The ring magnet rotates in a printed circuit board with stator in accelerator pedal sensor potentiometer 1 (B37r1) and in accelerator pedal sensor potentiometer 2 (B37r2). This produces a change in the voltage. Information about the accelerator pedal position is transmitted in the form of two signal voltages to the ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10).

Emergency running

If the signal from accelerator pedal sensor potentiometer 1 (B37r1) or accelerator pedal sensor potentiometer 2 (B37r2) fails, the other signal is used and the engine goes into emergency mode.
