Location
The engine oil temperature sensor is located on the small oil pan at the middle front.
Task
The engine oil temperature sensor records the engine oil temperature.
Body
The engine oil temperature sensor has an integrated precision resistor with negative temperature coefficient (NTC).
Engine oil temperature sensor faults are recorded by the CDI control unit (N3/30) and stored in the fault memory.
Function
The NTC precision resistor alters its electrical resistance in line with the engine oil temperature. Electrical resistance decreases as temperature increases. The change in resistance results in a voltage signal, which is used by the CDI control unit to compute the engine oil temperature.
