Danger! | Risk of explosion caused by welding or soldering work on closed air conditioning system. Risk of poisoning caused by inhaling overheated refrigerant vapors. Risk of injury to skin and eyes caused by contact with liquid refrigerant. | Never perform welding work on or near a closed air conditioning system. No smoking or open flames. Wear safety glasses and protective gloves. Work only in well ventilated areas. Carry out repair work on the air conditioning system circuit only after the system has been drained.
| Procedure for a damaged or leaky air conditioning system | ||
| Protect air conditioning circuit and components from moisture when carrying out repair work | All models with air conditioning | |
| Notes on handling R134a refrigerant | All models with R134a refrigerant | |
1 | Drain air conditioning system (recycle refrigerant), evacuate, fill, inspect for leaks | When filling the air conditioning system, feed extracted quantity of compressor oil back into the refrigerant circuit.
2 | Remove lower engine compartment paneling
3 | Slacken poly-V belt and remove
4 | Detach A9x1 connector
5 | Remove bolts (3) and remove refrigerant compressor with pipe system | Seal openings (parts kit)
6 | Unscrew pipe system from refrigerant compressor | 1 Bolt Seal openings (parts kit)
7 | Correct the oil level in the refrigerant compressor
8 | Install in the reverse order | If the AC compressor has been replaced because of damage caused by an internal fault
Replace suction and pressure lines together with sealing rings
Note oil filling quantity on replacement of the lines
Replace expansion valve
9 | Replace fluid reservoir
10 | Switch on the air conditioner and allow the engine to idle for roughly 4 minutes. | Set temperature selector wheel to blue notches, or with automatic air conditioning set to "" Blowers to max.
11 | Check air conditioning for proper operation | The air outlet temperature at the center air vent must not fall below 5 °C, if necessary
perform diagnosis according to diagnosis manual
12 | Inspect the air conditioning circuit for leaks | Air conditioning system leak detector |
