Removal, installation

Remove door liner on tailgate

Unclip window frame trim

 First outer trim then top trim

Pull washing water hose off of rear wiper motor

 Plug hose with suitable plug

Remove cover on license plate lamp

 Two screws each on inside and outside

Disconnect connector from rear window defroster

Disconnect connector (2) from central locking

 Only with code FZ0 or FZ1

Disconnect connector (3) from rear window washer

Pull electrical leads out of tailgate

Unclip shock absorber (4) on tailgate

 Have 2nd person hold tailgate to prevent falling down

Mark installation position of tailgate

 This facilitates reinstallation

Unscrew hinges (1) on tailgate

 Remove tailgate with help
from 2nd person
Avoid damaging paint



Reinstall in opposite order

 After installing check gap all around,
if necessary 
